But I'm getting told that global warming making the ice disappear is a new thing in the last 30 years......either that's wrong or this photo needs all it's dates moved foward by 100 years

14,000 years ago sea level was 120m lower than present and when the large ice caps in North America and Northern Europe melted and retreated sea level increased at 15mm/year. Ever since that time sea level has been slowly rising due to warming of the oceans.

Yes this is true, also there are times of warmer and colder eras within the general warming trend. The Romans grew vineyards in Britain 2,000 years ago, this has not been possible since then, until recent decades. Then during the Medieval times there was a mini ice age that caused crop failures throughout Europe. All this is information that is readily available to read on the net or in text books.

Ice melt is relative to its size mass density & depth ie the rate of melt will increase as those factors decrease.
