This was the original Otira Hospital, built in 1910. It burned down in 1920 and a home next door, owned by the Public Service Department, was commandeered and converted into a new Hospital. The building served as a Hospital until the Tunnel opened and was then converted to a hotel. It was a hospital in the 1920's then became a hotel which closed in 1953.

This attached photo was the original Otira Hospital, built in 1910.
