Been trying to find any archived articles that were newsworthy at the time - in the mid/ late 60's - during a winter electrical storm at sea, several fireballs skipped across the water and hit the side of a couple of houses on the esplanade in Cobden - burning off considerable amounts of the paintwork - cannot find records?

I think it is something that has happened periodically in Greymouth over the years. I have a memory which would go back to the mid sixties of such an event in Cobden. It happened one evening. My father described it as a fireball. It made a path through Cobden, making contact with buildings periodically. At Nimmo’s store it sucked out the large roller door on the side of the building. It also did quite a bit of damage to the roof of the Neame’s house on the corner of Bright and Cardwell StreetDate of Photo1965Map^[1]
