I reckon our's would have crossed that coming from Callaghans/Stafford & across through Blue Spur and then on up to Koiterangi.... Malfroy's connections too = they amazing early people to Ross and Westland.

Held in place by wire ropes, when the piles were pulled it was found that they hadn't gone into the hard but had mushroomed on it. Only access to that side of the river until the road went over the pah hill and across the tailings. Fell thru it one day while "recovering" deck planks after it closed, stepped into a void some burglar had left.

Used to jump off that bridge into the river when it was much deeper . We did our Bronze medallion lifesaving certificate off it. We had to jump off in our pyjamas . then take off the pyjamas in the water , tie a knot at the end of the legs , fill them with air and use them for a flotation device . worked really well.
