DescriptionMy home town Dobson with the coal mine in the foreground.The car circled belonged to my Dad.My sister Judy and I in a school photo.I remember going on a class trip down the coal mine.We rode down on the trucks that the miners went down on and came back covered in coal dust.I still remember what it looked like down there.The mine went under our town and we used to feel what were called mine bumps but it was probably the detonaters being set off to loosen the coal.I remember we all used to wait for dad to come home with something he had left in his lunch bag for us.His bag was a sugar bag tied at both ends with string and worn over his shoulder.I always remember thinking about my dad picking away at the coal right underneath us.I also remember the yellow detonater wire he always had repairing or tying something up and the fossils of shells and marine life he used to bring home with him.He was a hard working man and didn't take any crap from us kids.But he was also could be a good laugh like when he called out to us ....all outside for a lolly scramble....you could imagine our surprise when he threw hundreds and thousands out onto the driveway.They were hard days back then but I reckon we all turned out okay.Map^[1]ContributorSue Eade

Nice memories. Dad, Len Green, look us kids down the mine before it shut too. I also used to look forward to him coming home from work to see if he left any lunch for us too. Sometimes there was a jam sandwich.
