the old steam cranes

I lived on Palmerston street,opposite this action,and could hear the hammering on the wagons ,to remove the last of the coal,when in the hull. I think that ,at that time,one of the two cranes was a electric job. When coal was king !

Arnie Richards Also the fellow of Black, Bill Clewer, and Ian Mathewson. They all gave me a crash course in driving and firing the steam cranes. They could lift 15 tonne. Steam pressure was 120lbs. Lights were 32 volt an driven by a steam turbine. As far as I know they were bght in to NZ from UK.
