Nice photo. Uncle Ward took me for a trip on the Totara from Westport - Tarakohe - Manukau - Nelson - Westport. Off New Plymouth the waves were burying the bow and sweeping along the decks. Very impressive. He had some great 8mm movies of some of his time at sea etc.

Jessie Guy yes with my younger sisters he was a soecial guest at our place as I guess he was to us all, you can look him up online there is a large write up about him he had an incredible life .I think it was a memorial I just know once ge retired he carried on doing great things it's been awhile since I read it but see for yourself

Hi John Van Pomeren, I worked in the office of Anchor Shipping and as she was built in 1957 for the coastal coal trade and Ward Whaitiri was possibly captain I'd say early 60s
