This tram belonged to the Lake Brunner Sawmilling Co. and the logs were cut at their Ruru mill.

Glenn Johnston if that was at the Haupiri they would have been cut at the Bell Hill or Kopara sawmill I'm guessing. The Ruru tram never went that far

Hi Craig Benbow, I wondered about the Bell Hill mill owned by the same company myself but it closed in 1930 according to the NZFS Internal report 1980 Sawmills of the West Coast Grey & Westland Counties. Tony's caption or is it Heather's heading says Ruru Mill tram. This photo in Paul's book just mentions that it was a Lake Brunner Sawmilling Co. tram in the Haupiri area 1930's not 1930. Putting the two bits of info together I thought ok perhaps the logs did go to the Ruru mill and not Bell Hill. As for the Kopara mill that was different ownership and not Lake Brunner Sawmilling Co.

Glenn Johnston definitely could be earlier. I think you are on the right track. I just know the logs would have had to have gone on either a truck or sawn timber to Ruru. I think it highly unlikely they trucked logs unless they had a spur tram that hooked it all together. I can't recall any evidence of that and the incline was quite steep but perhaps they did run them down through Butchers to the other tram
