Old timer photo from Max's collection again as his family interest - Dowell's owning the pub for a time, later years. In 1886 Charles Norman purchased Meharry's accommodation house & granted publicans licence (from Aubrey Cropps book).

Kevin Oregan It was the pub up Kokatahi further Kevin. Still called Kokatahi Hotel after being owned by several publicans

As a kid growing up in Blackball, we occasionally got to see/hear the Kokatahi band play. I think most Coasters in those days 60's, pronounced the name Cock a tie, I appreciate this is not PC nowadays, but does anyone still refer to the Band as such.

Is this the old original Kokatahi Hotel that was further up the road about opposite the Kokatahi Hall witch got burnt down. A new Hotel was built on a new sight to were it is today opposite the old Kokatahi Store the Store served as a Post Office in the early days as well. This is what some old time residence of Kokatahi told me back in the 1960s

Max Dowell Grandparents owned the Kokatahi Hotel 1920. James Avery Dowell & Margaret Dowell (who was his 2nd wife). They gave the award - which Stan Graham won (found yrs later). Margaret's sister worked for Diedrich's as house keeper for number of years.
