Interesting how the change of colour fashion means the old red and green rooves are all gone and now only shades of gray to be seen.
Cherish Rose
The first house you see on the right still looks the same, cross the road from the fire station.

There used to be sooo many shops in the 60-70s sad to see them all go over the years. Plus a Masonic lodge, bowling club, garage, and bus company. Great old days. Can remember going to pick up fresh bread at school lunch time and pulling the loaf in half. Had most of it eaten before hitting home

Went to Runanga Playcentre in the “old Hall”! Had a fireplace in the back room where we were! You took 6p & a piece of fruit which was cut up & shared with all the kids! Mrs Gillally was our teacher! Then in later years played badminton in the actual Hall, with some local legends who have now passed! ♥️

I’m only 21, but me and my sister were so lucky to live here growing up. 7 mile road our house was on, we had the bush section out the back to explore. We would ride the pony with mum to the bike (runangas motorbike track) up the hill and cruise around the streets. We loved all of the walkways too. Also visiting the top and bottom shop for a dollar mixture! I remember it feeling like such a safe place to be. Growing up at Runanga school with the old concrete open pool next to it are memories I won’t forget, my sister actually got locked in there once I remember the school hall and the new deck that was built into it- and recently saw that the building was taken down to make way for new garden beds for the school. Many memories in that hall. There also use to be a roller skating club at the old miners hall that kids could go to, you would pay $2 I think it was and hire some roller skates for the late afternoon, I wish that building can be restored to its former glory. Runanga will always be home to me
