We lived at the Kaniere -Hokitika sawmill when it caught fire about mid 60’s, it was never replaced, the planning part kept going for a few more years. When we lived there there was two houses, one on each side of the road that went to the mill.

I used to go out to the mill most weekend's with a few of my mates and have a ball in the bush above the mill and then we would ride our bikes back home on the way we used to hop over a fence into an orchard and get some fruit great fun
