The orange roof building on the right side of the road could be the post office. The reddish roof house behind the tall guys head could the rangers house. The water tank was at the MOW screening plant. I think it is the old Haast township in the 60s before the road was sealed

The car has a red number plate, so the date is no later than mid 1961. The car is a 1955 DeSoto Diplomat.

I'm pretty sure that year is wrong because we left Haast in 1967 and at that time we were in the long white building just the other side of the big tin shed which was Dad's workshop. Mum and Dad also built the turquoise building which was our shop. Before we left the petrol pumps were where the grey car is sitting. I'd love to give you the date but can't remember as I was quite young.
