Named after the area that saw the start of the Industrial Revolution. The ‘Ironbridge Gorge’ in Shropshire is a UNESCO site. The Ironbridge was the first bridge in the world (1779) to use iron structurally. The production of cheap iron in the area, using coke rather than coal or wood, was the fundamental discovery. It is obvious where these early pioneers came from.
