DescriptionAt this time of the year, many West Coasters up 'sticks' and head away from the Coast for a well-earned break. Back in the 1940s / 50s and 60s Tahunanui, in Nelson, and Caroline Bay in Timaru were a couple of favourite spots.
This photo of the Bell (from Kotuku) and Hartigan (from Stillwater) families was taken in the 1948/49 Christmas Holidays at the Ashbury Motor Camp in Timaru. I may have asked this question before - however I remember Mr Bell, you all are a little older than me - My Godparents lived next door - Charlie and Clare Taylor. Recollect visiting your home one time with school, when your father was caring for a kiwi found in the bush(?).

Josephine Morehu We were coming back from Westport one night when our headlights dazzled the kiwi. I caught it and we took it home and contacted the Ranger the next day. We kept it for a short time before the Ranger eventually released it. It was amazing how many people came to view it.Jennie Scott
We went to Marlborough 2 weeks every January from Hoki, alternating between Blenheim, Nelson, Motueka, Mapua - awesome times
