Remember Mary Hogan and her sister, Cate Callaghan ( hope I have the surname correct)., who lived at Māori Gully and kept turkeys. They used to walk down to Kokiri to collect groceries and mail from the PO which was run by my Grandmother Catherine Nestor. My Uncle sometimes delivered their groceries and mail and we Grandkids used to go for the drive. Turkeys weren’t kept by many so we’re a real novelty for us , especially their “gobble gobble” crowing.
