DescriptionJAMES MCCULLOCH MARSHALL was a euphonium player in the Greymouth Municipal Band in 1926. He and his wife had just immigrated from Scotland earlier that year, and he worked in the Dobson mine. Sadly he was killed on 3 December 1926 in the mine disaster which took the lives of several other men, including Thomas Black, another cousin.

Earlier that evening James had won the euphonium solo at the competition held in the Greymouth Town Hall. He was allowed to give his selection early in the evening, and cycled back to the mine in time for his shift.Map^[1]ContributorChristine Riding
