Description My wife and I have just bought the shop at 27 Broadway, Reefton. We’d love to have any photos taken from the top end of Broadway. Our shop was most recently called the Reefton Coffin Co and had also been Kearns Grocers.

We are opening a pizza restaurant - Bassano Pizza Parlour. Named in memory of my wife Jen’s great grandfather, Frank Bassano, who arrived on the West Coast in 1908 as a solo father of a 4 year old daughter Enid. He was manager of North Brunner Mine for a while before he died and is buried in Reefton.

My dad Lew Kearns owned that shop for about 30-40 years. Old fashioned grocery and general store, I worked there for a while and loved it. Those were the days of taking orders over the phone, making them up, delivering them and having monthly accounts. Lots of book work done manually, no computers back then. We probably have photos, will have to dig them out. Good luck for your new venture, hope you don’t modernize it too much

Lew and Marj Kearns owned Broadway Supplies, he also ran in later times the shop next door, called Smallbones selling alcohol. They did home deliveries and charge accounts.
