Tried that track twice when we were fit & young 50 yrs ago but it always started pouring down , drenching us before we reached the top The best part was a hot pie & a beer at the Empire to warm up after .

I remember there being a track going up to Mt Greenland starting alongside Jones Creek near the Ross Convent. Phil May used to run up there and back occasionally. It was also rumoured the miners had a piano up there.

Does the 4wd track that goes up to the top then down the other side to the hut not take you most of the way their... or is this somewhere else.

Trevor Taylor Correct. The old road and bulldozed track take you to within about 20 mins walking of the stamper battery and you can follow old tracks if you know where they are.

Martyn Bisdee I have been several different ways from the Totara Valley. An overgrown benched track starts from near the saddle off the Mikonui road, a blazed track above the TR of Cedar Creek intersects with this track and there is the Cedar creek way. The middle route is quite good though indistinct at the start where it leaves the road between Cedar Creek and Black Hut through cut over bush though is quicker going once up on the ridge. A branch track before Veronica township site drops down to the battery site if using the first two routes I mentioned. Anyone contemplating these routes needs some experience at following overgrown tracks through West Coast bush and a good sense of direction.
