What a lovely bloke .
What was the horse ?
Badagnote ?

Peter John Claude
There was a horse called Bagdad Note at that time who won the big race ,but from memory I think it was Midge Didham who rode him ,So dont know who R J Skelton was on, in the photo displayed
Cheryl Pinn. 5 brothers. Frank, Bob, Billy, Errol and Max. All jockeys from Fox St, Cobden.

Darrin Evans. First time I met Bob he and his brother Bill were standing talking to my father Frank Evans at Riccarton Racecourse on a race day and they were both wearing pantyhose.

Ange Beck. Still a great pic.

Russell Nelson. Rode Van der Hum to win the Melbourne Cup.

Tamara Stollery. Cheryl Pinn. Mrs Skelton used to make the best peanut brittle. Used to sneak it to me. She was one of my favourite people when I stayed at Nan's. Spent heaps of time over there lol.

Gael Longshanks. Rearing to go.

Cary Collins. Great jockey. He was renowned for his ability to ride horses that were considered stayers. He had a great two-mile record with racehorses.

Bronwyn Wafer. Great action shot, he did good to stay on a high rear like that!

Linda Hay. Great moment caught there.

Craig Skelton. Go RJ - what balance & horsemanship.

Geoff More. I remember him doing track work in Levin for his brother, Errol I think his name was. When Bill was there those early mornings, it was always more lively. Nice guy.

Jim Clark. What horse, Grey Way?

Kristen Kiri McGuire-Hurdle. Wow, didn't know he was from Cobden.

Vern Pattinson. Classic.

Mary Costello. Cobden legends.

Tony Becker. Skeleton brothers and other jockeys often based themselves at my uncle Ben Brodie's big stables in Avonhead Road in the 1940s–50s. Used the bath a lot to keep weight down and ate frugally off Aunt Doris's meals. We exercised horses on local roads and Riccarton Racecourse. As a youngster, we mucked out and re-strawed stables daily, hosed and stropped down after workouts. Dick Pelling and Garth Newport were the main trainers when I lived there. One of Ben's better horses was "Front Page". Busy stables in those days. Now just housing.

Jonathan Watson. Yes, he rode Van der Hum to win the 1976 Melbourne Cup. The horse was part-owned and trained by my cousins, the Robinsons from Matangi.
