DescriptionFour Kotuku residents in about 1940. From left to right are Rose Molly, Sarah Magee, Jane Bell (nee Molloy and my mother) and Molly Mears. Jane and Rose were sisters and Molly was their cousin. Sarah was a close friend of Jane and Rose’s mother, Honorah.
Honorah died in 1928 leaving ten children living. Jane was the oldest girl, at sixteen years of age, and had six siblings younger than her, the youngest being about aged about two. After her mother’s death Jane had to leave the Course she was on at the Greymouth Technical College and return home to Kotuku to take up the duties of her mother. Sarah Magee was a rock to the family and supported Jane during those tough times. The Molloy family never forgot what Sarah had done for them and she was always included in family gatherings, including all their marriages. Date of Photo1940Map^[1]ContributorGeoffery Bell
