I remember the Railcar would stop in Otira long enough to hop over to the Hotel grab a bottle of beer and get back to the train

Peter Chronican This hotel is the one heading up the Otira gorge to Arthurs Pass. It is not there now.

Awesome pic never seen it before showing the position of the old Gorge hotel, I remember finding dozens of horseshoes in this area as kids back in the 60’s.
