I walked over it from Blackball to Ngahere for a beer not long before this happened. There was a wicked whirlpool under there.

Was a temporary swing bridge erected by Fergusons over previously washed out spans from old bridge. Not long after opening a further span washed away from the old bridge where the swing bridge was an anchored to.
