We had an Austin 1800 like the back car. Dad freaked us out enough on Otira.

Jennie Scott that’s a mark 1. I had a mark 2. Awesome car. Called a land crab by some. I sold it to a mate who raced it in a demolition derby at the stock car track. Got 59$ for it

Every summer holidays we travelled from Greymouth to stay with our Grandparents just north of Bluff. We used to travel from home to Christchurch and then take the east coast drive to Southland. When the Haast Pass opened up it was a huge bonus in terms of mileage. In addition the new scenery was amazing. I remember Dad keeping a note of the mileage progressively sealed each year. Oh those memories in the early days of gravel roads and frequent stock being shifted.
