I remember old remains of Leo's old mill, in the Mill Road up top of Kowhitirangi.. this pic likely to be in the 30's/40's?.

Are you the Andrew that married Leo & Rita daughter? My Dad worked for them for the life of the mill there & at Hokitika George. My Dads name was Ward Higgins & he was the truck driver.

Looks that way - I know he had one up by the Gorge in Koiterangi - but thought that came after Toaroha. Used to go to the old Mill site as a kid. He would show us where the big break saws were etc.

Dianne Smith I remember your father who we called Wardy Higgins. He would drive his log truck past our farm in Kowhitirangi a couple miles from the Gorge & always give us a big wave if us kids were out on the road.

Im Leo & Reta's grandson.
Reta passed away in 1989 & Rozlye passed away in 1990. Andrew Snr i.e. my father passed away in 2021. He lived in Texas.
I remember both Leo & Reta talking about your Dad - they had a great deal of respect for Ward.
I met Alan (Shorty) Fearn a few times before and after my grandfather died in 76 - he would stop by and drop the odd dead tree on the family farm.
You may remember Frank Schiist - who lived in the old cottage by the farmhouse until a stroke got him around '85 (?) - took him to Seaview. He passed up there.
My grandfather was wonderful to Fiona (my sister (d 2020) and I growing up.
Many fond memories of him.
All buried up at Hoki except my sister.
Came across this photo and thought others might remember it.
