DescriptionGreymouth 1867. Boatmens huts. Maori house, Wharf, Rowley's (afterwards Wylde's) house on hill - present quarry.

A local historian (Mary Trayes) states: Property records at Archives NZ Christchurch clearly show that James Wylde may have lived in the house shown on the hill, but he forfeited that leasehold, and other properties to his mortgagee, SG Rowley in July 1870. Therefore this house was originally Wylde's and afterwards Rowley's, not the other way round as stated. She additionally notes that the curved fence down near the river just right of centre is in the Maori Cemetery, Maori Reserve No. 31

On reverse: This belongs to R E Wylde Greymouth, Maori Town Greymouth in 1868 To the W C Old Boys Association .
