Follow-up on my question regarding Submarine engines at the Dobson Power station.
With Neil Martins consent he emailed me some writings of his Father Frank Martin who worked as a Sparky at Wallsend, the Dobson mines, State Hydro and the Greymouth electric power board, he retired in 1981.

I had a relation by the name of Roger Smith that work at the Dobson sub station
He was electrocuted in about 1968 aged around 30 at the time , he died on the way to hospital
He lived in the house opposite on the main road on the corner with his mother
I can remember going into the sub station with him an seeing the two big engines that were there .

Les Smith when we (Frank Martin family) lived there in the State Hydro houses c1953 to 1955 the house you mention on the corner was occupied by Jack Hanna and family, Martin family next door on Greymouth side and King family ( Archie and Henry King's father and Mother) - all men were State Hydro employees; more worker's ( including "Mac" McFadgen, wife Jess and daughter Raewyn) ) housing was located on the side road past the Powerstation.

Roger was a member of the Greymouth Jaycee Club at the same time as me. Roger was climbing a high tension power pole with a hand held radio in his shirt pocket and it had a long metal aerial that came close enough to a live wire. That was a sad occasion.
