Have seen this before somewhere. The distinguished bloke on the far right is Tommy Seddon MP.

My cousin whom we called Uncle Dan (Greaney) was a road worker on the Haast- Jackson Bay road and he did have a radio.
Great memories of him when he visited us in Greymouth.

There were several of huts like this for roadmen right up till the late 50,s all the way up to Whataroa asI recall mostly occupied by middle aged men many returned servicemen

Camped the night there years ago arrived in the dark with two pack horses heading for Cooper Creek where a couple of Deer Cullers were waiting for supplies.
Late getting away from Paringa and foul weather held me up.
Warm and dry in the hut and the horses were quietly waiting on the track for me on daylight.
Good pack horses those.

Just to be clear there are 2 Māori Saddle’s in the Haast area. This one is north on the old Haast to Paringa cattle track. The other is just west of the Haast Pass between the Blue and Okuru rivers, Baz
