Our neighbours when I was a kid in Christchurch, in the late 40s to 70s were Alf and Rachel Rothery who had shifted to Christchurch from Inchbonnie. They told us tales of walking across the railway bridge on Friday (or Saturday) nights to go to the Jacksons Pub for a knees-up and then walking back home again. Apparently, all the kids were put in blankets in the corner, behind the piano, for the evening and carried back home.

Dad bought a horse from Inchbonnie in the 1960s
He was a naughty boy so dad called him Jack Dugan like the wild colonial boy.
Then he used to sing the song but changed the line he was born and bred in Ireland to he was born and bred in Inchbonnie.
I did not know any different for years
