Is that one of the Two vessels that also came into Hokitika and tied up at the wharf ?

Greg Mait I would think so. It seemed to be a goodwill tour especially to regions they boats were named for.

In recognition of Lake Kaniere for which the Ship was named, she adopted Greymouth as her home port. There were 6 ships of this class purchased from the RN and all were named after our NZ Lakes.

Alan Beck The building in the background next to the Richmond Hotel iis the Phoenix Assurance building. Hyde Herring, Ernie Parfitt & the Dennehy's had their offices in there as well. The statue on the peak of the building was a wooden Phoenix & the concrete flames were on the corner parapets. The phoenix fell down in the 1968 earthquake and was never replaced. The building has a large boardroom as well as a strongroom and 6 separate offices. The original plans were gifted to History House to be included in a display about the harbour area. I do not know if the plans were ever displayed.
