Proportionally the tower looks a bit too high in my opinion.
I worked in Telegraph on that second level where the tower was in 1957

My understanding correct me if I'm wrong but but the plans for the chch post office and the greymouth post office got mixed up and it wasn't discovered until it was nearly finished.

When/ how did the tower come down!?!

Andrea Walker. Some dude on the Councel figured it was an earthquake risk. He stirred until he got it demolished about 1945. The clock stayed in storage for a number of years. The Lions club built the wooden structure on the flood wall on Quay at the top of Tainui St. The clock from the Post Office is the one on the tower.
