Was happy to stay there one wet cold day.Drier than outside.

If this is up river from the the current Maruia Springs accommodation, spa and eatery, and on the main road side of the river then it is probably the remains of Miss Bell's cabin. She was a spinster and taught primary school for many years in Reefton.

I spent some nights in the bush and on the tops a few times just about done in a blizzard,it's like a luxury then!
