DescriptionAt the time of the July 1929 earthquake a Mr Russell and his son of Canterbury,were returning up the river when they were caught in a landslide,past Welcome Bay and were covered by tons of hillside debris.Their horses were traced to this side of the slip,but no evidence of them emerging on the other side ,and their bodies were never found.Two crosses mark the spot where they were caught.Map^[1]External LinkMISSING PROSPECTORS - PAPERS PASTContributorAlexander Gray

They died as a result of the Inangahua earthquake. They were cavalry soldiers I think on their horses. I don’t think they found the men’s bodies or horses, just a bridle?
