The portion of the crowd attending the Westland Jubilee Celebrations at the official welcome to the Governor. The Westland Jubilee Celebrations, extending over several days, were commenced on January 7. They were attended by the largest gathering assembled in Hokitika for more than 30 years past, the total attendance estimated at 8000. Their Excellencies the Earl and Countess of Liverpool were present. Nearly 500 pioneers participated, numbers of them having travelled from almost all parts of New Zealand, while many of them have been in Hokitika and District 50 years. The visitors were [entertained] at racing and sports meetings, concerts and picnics.
