We went in there as kids on packhourses mid 1950s with our parents. I remember them milking a black cow tying it's leg so it wouldn't kick while being milked. Took dad back there by helicopter for his 80th birthday.

My Dad took one of them too in 1958...it's a favourite of mine. Would loved to have met them. He'd written Mrs Dillon and Bert Wilkinson on the slide.

Spent a lot of time in there there was still preserves on the shelves and the walls were papered with newspapers dating back to old metal wheeled tractors .

Had an idea, maybe completely wrong, that “Mrs” Dillon was an honorary title given as she acted as a midwife in the district for many years but was actually a sister looking after her two unmarried brothers. Also that the brothers prospected as well as farmed and paid in gold when they came to town.

Always Sunday lunch time in our house back in the day. And bread & butter pudding,rice pudding. E.C.T. all cooked in the Coal range.

Love these husband and wife photos from the days past. Bet Mrs. Dillon did a damn good roast meal. Sadly roast meals are getting fewer and fewer in families. It was the best time of the week, when all the family got together. And usually a Dominion pudding or similar to cap the meal off.

Bert who was one of the Dillons used to come down out of the valley to collect the mail and get supplies. He tied his horses up at our place while he went up to Jackson's. He taught me to whistle when I was a wee girl.
