I broke my arm and spent 6 weeks in Mandel ?ward in the 60s. Then I broke it again the year after, so became very familiar with the ward, Mr Lindsay Black the surgeon and nurses. Imagine doing that now, not sure why I had to stay there and attend "school" each day in the hospital, rather than be at home in Greymouth.

So sad it had to close. Would have been great if they could have rebuilt another hospital there. Some people have so far to travel now. It was an awesome place to train and work.
