I can remember back to Xmas 1963,the cars at Lytteton were lifted onto the ferry by a rope basket style lift. The car had to be there about 1.00pm and the boat didn’t go until about 7.00pm. In Wellington it did not take long for all the cars to get on the wharf, that day we drove to Kawarau where our rellies lived.

Interislander? Not in those days, methinks. This ship is not even roll-on/roll-off, so it's pre-Aramoana/Aranui days. Unless he's just using the current KiwiRail commercial name to mean the inter-island ferry (as it was known then).

Unloading our Car at Picton off the "Tamahine" the whistle blew while the Car was in the air. SMOKO! everybody out for 15mins, leaving Car stranded. Good old days!!
