The very last Newman's coach run to west coast from Nelson in 1991. They first started in 1879 and in 1882 went to the coast. Drivers are Billy Higgins (left) and Keith (split) Lavery. I used to travel often from Nelson to Greymouth and return in mid 1950's. One driver used to tell the tourists as we travelled around the Coast Road that the farmers out there ran 20 cows to the acre and the tourists would gasp and stare at all the bush and say "Really?" He would lead them on and then say " Yeah nikaus!"

One of the stops was Craddocks front office in Westport as they were part of TNL / Newman's group .
Remember vividly having to help load the packs / suitcases and bicycles

If my memory is correct, Billy Higgins mother, Chrissie lived next door to Doctor Kibblewhite in Fox Street, Cobden. Hopefully I’m right.

Gary Frank hiya Gary. The 2 volvo composites we had permanently on the coast run were 735 colossus and 736 Ajax. But 775 will watch spent it's time mostly on Nelson to Christchurch run. I've driven her lots of times as well. Glad to know she's survived.
