DescriptionA couple chatting with a local with her child by the roadside at the "Lake Paringa Settlement". Taken Feb 1966 while on a coach tour that travelled up from Invercargill. A 'Perutz' slide which has suffered a bit with age but this image has always been one of my favourites. I'm assuming the house is no longer there. Paringa is quite spread out but from a look at google maps I can't see any older small houses that close to the road. I think most of the road down that way was still gravel. Maybe they had just sealed a small section near the houses. I think Paringa was about as far south as you could drive in that era. I remember going down there on a family holiday a few years before that.

Looks like the corner of state hi way 6 and condon's road or thereabouts. That house is still there
