The late Cliff McDonnell. A fairly competitive runner until his ticker gave a bit of trouble. A dam good bloke too.

Remember Billy Findlay. Talked to him on the ferry a couple of years after the Wahine sank. He was a passenger on the Wahine at the time. One of the last off after helping women and children in to life boats. Left the stricken vessel fully clothed plus a life jacket. Made it swimming to the Seatoun beach with the life jacket at just the elastic off the top of his undies intact. Legend.

I did a year with Greymouth Harriers when i was young. Remember falling over & cutting leg. Needed stitches. Harry van louee(I think that was his surname helped me.he died in mine disaster a few years later. Good man.
