Before they married Dad was a coal miner living in Blackball and Mum was a nurse at the Hampden St Maternity Hospital. They first met when a friend asked mum to chaperone her on a date with a new boyfriend , Mum told me young ladies in Hokitika didn’t go out alone with a boyfriend in those situations, so she asked mum to accompany her.
