By: Joan Orchard9th Mar 2025 5:09PMAlan and I bought this building from Rex Bailey in 1996. It was in a poor state of repair. We pulled down the original old shed attached to the rear where Hannan & Seddon stored files. We completely upgraded the interior, having a toilet installed at the end of the passage. A boiler house was built at the side rear and a boiler installed. The back yard was turned into a lovely area with grass, roses and other plants. We managed to have a parking area made between us and the old bank building. We used this Buildng as the office of A P Orchard & Associates Ltd Insurance Assessors. The canopy over the door we installed. It was originally blue and white. We also painted the complete outside of the building. The first Greymouth flood did not enter the building but the second flood did. With the help of many people we had the carpet and contents removed but continued working and in fact had State Insurance and other flooded insurance companies operating from our building. In 1996 we sold the business and later Ronnie McGee moved into it running a radio station from upstairs. He eventually bought the building from us. We have very fond memories of our time there and the Xmas parties we held every year in the rear courtyard. If only walls could talk!!!!! Joan Orchard
