Description2012--While demolishing an old Bach near the train station at MOANA (Lake Brunner), a railway carriage emerged. The old carriage was part of the building structure and has since been restored on another West Coast site.

The guards van was written off after the runaway train derailment in about 1963, while shunting at Jackson’s part of the train got away and was derailed at Moana so it couldn’t run in a train that was coming up from Stillwater.

Here is the runaway crash that the van was involved with in 1963. The Van was moved to the side and stayed there for about 40 years, and used as the Yachting Club sleeping quarters for years.

The vans number was F 323. And it had just come out from a full A class overhaul from Addington Workshops. First week back in service.
