When Ena Thiele was office lady for buses, Tomasi then Martini owned hotel. Dining room was in front, had their own dairy farm (dog called Moss). Martini built the Wine and Dine upstairs. My mum often cooked. One hit water heater always leaked & I was the unfortunate one (age 12) who vaccumed it & ruined

Sarah Penrose I remember Mrs tomasi having surgery in there house I am sure my mum Sylvia use clean motels for her when we lived at Pukekura an mum use to be cook at pub an she use work for Nikki in fish an chip shop when we were at school. Once my dad leo took over mill from grandad in mid 70s mum worked in mill as well.

Somewhere around 1967/68? Dad worked for the Road Services and we lived along the road past the Tearooms/dairy, Tomasi's and Oat's which are out of the photo ? I remember it well ? what about you Joy Barr nee Hargreaves ?

This photo taken in the early 60s show open drains and a narrow highway. Down on the left side you can view the Ministry of works buildings and Tommy and Mrs. Lucas house, which now is the Adamsons. Tom Lucas worked for the Westland Catchment Board. It was this decade that changed the scene of the township. The open drains on both sides were removed , hence the widening of the main road followed by construction of footpaths and houses. A view of the township and main highway is a recent photo snapped by Michelle Adamson. It is worth comparing the two photos of then and today scene.
