In those days there were boys employed by the Post Office delivering telegrams and mail on bikes. My dad was one.

I see beech trees so it will be north of the the Taramakau River. The date looks about right , 1930 or 30's.

Phil Wright Yes they did but it looks like a track or road formation or even a railway formation is being worked on here. The gradient looks to be fairly gentle and constant on this section.
