Don Elder got a huge payout for sabotaging Solid Energy. Green politics destroying another primary industry. Now we import shit coal from Asia to fire up our power station at Huntley to get us through the winter. Great planning.
Murray Fisher
Keith Messenger sadly the last coalition government don’t care about our jobs or the energy reserves. They were happily proving to their global puppet masters that they would stuff our country in the name of climate change. By using the imported coal the emissions are linked to Indonesia not NZ, therefore reducing our emissions. Playing the PC game and no doubt getting some financial kickback.
Don Spicer
Keith Messenger It was John Keys govt. That oversaw the demise of Solid Energy. Don Elder walked away with over a million bucks.
John Pearce
Let's hope Shane can get it and running again don't vote greens stuffed the west coast
Don Spicer
John Pearce Greens has nothing to do with it. It was under John Keys govt. That oversaw the demise of Solid Energy.

Sad end really. Great collection of photos.

I suspect they J Key lead Government hammered the nails in the coffin of underground mining at the behest of Todd Energy who were backers of Pike River Coal.
Adrian Gardner
Every coal field needs a power station built on it. Out the ground into the boiler .
Ian Selwood
Sad fact is Labour Party was born on the Coast out of coal miner's. Then 100 year's later, with the help of their Green mates, turned around and stabbed their mining descendants in the back..!
Murray Saunders
I don’t understand how such a profitable mine went pop so quickly.
Was it due to politics?
Soz fir asking I don’t live on the coast anymore
Andy McNeish
Murray Saunders solid energy tried to diversify into alternative energy , bio fuels etc , didn’t work out , just really poorly run at the very top , Don Elder & his cronies has a lot to answer for
