In 60's Chch to Greymouth, the driver made supreme time so could stop for final 10mins of nz-sth Af union final then another effort to not be late next Stn. Those days gone sadly

Wayne Cannan Those railcars were variously known as "Twinsets", "Fiats", or "88 Seaters".
The Vulcans were smaller.

IMO a restored railcar run Westport to Hoki or Nelson to hoki would be a massive drawcard. I know it depends on cost and track quality of course.

The number of trips I made on that train from Stillwater to Christchurch . The Otira tunnel smell and Canterbury plains is still a favourite memory of those trips whether winter time or summer.

I remember these so well when I was young.. They had a particular smell and I remember stopping at Otira tearooms for lovely fresh sandwichs and a drink. I remember the pillows and blankets that we used to put back up on the luggage racks at the end of our trip. The Good old Days.
