DescriptionAllan Rooneys photo, his father Jack worked here from 1954 to 1968 and took the photo. The Managers name on the front says, Tom Brazil. Tom was there from 55 to 63 he was born in Cronadun and had a good mining background, he was overseas in WW2. Its a early photo the gantry was later filled and the road went across it to make a loop so the buses didnt have to turn.Map^[1]ContributorMoe Bowes

Nice pic Moe ,,Tom Brazil started his mining in the Capleston mines working for my Great Grandfather, probably the "Imperial " mine, later became 'Archer Brothers".

Tom Brazil. Two sons were also involved in mining Bill was a mines inspector whose job was reestablished when Solid Energy talked the govt to scrap it. Bill famously said at a meeting. The regulations were written with the blood of men and more will be spilled that was just before. Spring creek. Deaths. Pike river deaths.

When I was there (60 _ 65) I saw at least one miner, who retired that shift, stop half way across the bridge, on the left, to the bathouse strip off and throw his gear and throw into the gully below to the cheers of the boys. Great camaraderie and subtle humour among the guys
