Andy Bone That's the remains of the original first Rimu dredge pontoons you mention. The dredge pictured here is L&M mining dredge in modern times 1990's and is of all steel construction. All if it was removed on completion of thier mining operation.

Not a dredge.. its a floating screening plant. It has to be fed by that digger. The dredges were self feeding with bucket lines

Jack Devine You are right Jack, there were land based screens and floating screens, fed by a seperate mechanism, in this case an excavator. Good to see the photo though Tony, brings back memories of those days.

Andy Bone Don't know about pond draining. The early 1900's wooden pontoon dredge first worked the rimu area through to near SH6 Adair road The pontoons became rotted and where the remains are lying is where the upper dredge structure was transferred to new pontoons. The dredge continued mining and finished at the site of the old fish factory near SH6 Adair road.
