We lived next to the taxis sold our house to Jimmy Hambley when we shifted to Dunedin in March 1961

I remember those shops…kept an amazing variety of household needs for the time. I also loved visiting Mrs Pollocks (can still recall her very nasally voice) with her large range of haberdashery and Mrs Profitts book exchange, Esther McMonagles wee gift shop , Bootes Milkbar that made the best milkshakes…”progress” has destroyed these mainstays of our communities sadly.
