A hopper load was up to 8.5t. So that's 59 hoppers per hour, or just about 1/minute. Given the need to manually hook up hoppers, smack them about to release the coal, reseat them and shuffle wagons around that seems like an awfully high rate to consistently achieve in practice.

The opal now won from the State mines is shipped by sea,and
carried by rail or motor truck, to all parts of the Dominion.
At first all coal was taken and used by the railways, but,
as the demand by private gas companies and manufacturers became more
insistent, and the daily output grew, the need for storage facilities
became evident and storage lines were built to hold the coal pending
its delivery to boats.
The daily output increased with such rapidity that newer and
quicker methods·for coaling the ships were necessary, and so, on the
Greymouth Wharf, ~Ydraulic cranes, by means of whiili a boat can be
loaded at the rate of one. ;truck a minute .. that is, nearly 500 tons

only one crane worting. BY means of this crane the specially design-
-ed hoppers are lifted bodily from the undercarriage and swung over the
ship's hold, the trap door is opened in the bottom of the truck and the
coal drops at once into the hold. After being replaced on the undercarriage the truck is once more ready to be returned to the mine bins
for filling.
